An informal womens linen shirts is often equipped with patch pockets or flap pockets. A pocket with flap will prevent things inside the pocket from falling out. The flap pocket gives protection by hiding the pocket opening. Nowadays, the flap pocket will be often used as decoration like the one on the jean shirt.
